Mauritius is an island nation off the southeast coast of the African continent in the southwest Indian Ocean. It is located east of Madagascar. The main island is of volcanic origin and is almost entirely surrounded by a coral reef that poses maritime hazards.

Besides deep sea fishing, many other adventure activities are waiting for you. Mountain biking, hiking and countless water sports make Mauritius a haven for the fit and active adventurers, but you can also find more laid-back, luxurious tours, like horseback riding on the beach or private boat cruises along the coast.

Mauritius has a perfect year-round sub-tropical climate with two distinct seasons. Summer, from November to April, sees blue skies and the best temperatures, averaging around 30°C. January and March are 'wetter' months when sub-tropical storms or cyclones can occasionally occur, usually lasting just a couple of days.

In Mauritius, the wet season is oppressive and partly cloudy, the dry season is humid and mostly clear, and it is warm and windy year round. Over the course of the year, the temperature typically varies from 66°F to 85°F and is rarely below 62°F or above 88°F.

There are many private and government run buses in Mauritius, some of the popular are National Transport Corporation, United Bus Service, Mauritius Bus Transport and Triolet Bus Service among others. Most bus conductors are very helpful and will happily provide tourists directions.

Mauritius has a cosmopolitan culture. Co-existence among Mauritians of Indian, African, European and Chinese ancestry has led to a sharing of cultures and values, a collective participation in festivals and increased understanding between people of different backgrounds.
